Studies have shown that exposure to bright blue light in the evening can affect your circadian rhythms and make it harder to fall asleep. Night Shift uses your computer's clock and geolocation to determine when it's sunset in your location. It then automatically shifts the colors in your display to the warmer end of the spectrum. In the morning it returns the display to its regular settings.
- This is neither a solution to the main problem (inability to access or change Night Shift settings from an external monitor) nor the main symptoms (Night Shift being perpetually enabled on external monitors, or scheduling not working on internal monitors on a Mac using external display).
- When I choosed schedule settings on my Mac, manual option is automatically ticked by default, and it’s work for me, night shift from sunset to sunrise automatically. So I think you need to check manual box as well. Apparently Apple made Manual checkbox functioning as on-off switch in notifications centre.
- Night Shift doesn’t need a separate app, it is a feature of macOS that uses your Mac’s clock and your geographic location to determine whether it’s day or night where you are. It then uses that information to set the color temperature of your display — colder during the daytime and warmer in the evening.
